i wanted to get your opinion.
first...is it possible to give a tax cut that benefits the poor and the wealthy equally?
second...is it fair or right to give a tax cut to only the poor and not the wealthy?
third...why do we tax the rich at a higher percentage rate than the average earner?
fourth...is it fair that the rich are taxed at a higher rate than others?
fifth...why don't we just have a flat tax? why doesn't everyone just pay the same percentage of tax?
Because the rich can easily absorb a higher percentatge hit than the poor. Even if a rich person has to pay half his salary, he still can live quite comfortable on the half he has left. Someone that makes very little needs every nickel and dime they can get.
Say you have 15 people. 5of them make 100K (and are taxed 30%) 5 make 50K (and are taxed at 30%) and 5 make 10K (and are taxed 10%)
The total taxes paid are 217K$
In order to make the same 217$ the flat rate would need to be 27%. Which doesn't affect the rich and middle class hardly at all but would really be a burden on the poor.
my equation:
217K=(5*100k*percenta)+(5*50k*percentb)+(5*10k*percentc)
if you make percenta, b, c all equal they would be 27% to meet 217k$.

Whoops, I figured this with the 50K people actually paying 25% (not 30%)
